The FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) is a very important conversion of a N-datapoint digital signal into a linear combination of Fourier waves (or vice versa) than can be implemented algorithmically in O(NlogN) operations. This paper describes a different signal↔wave conversion that also runs in O(NlogN) operations, but now involving "square waves."
